Saber Interactive and AI in Game Development Controversy

The recently announced taxi service owner simulator, Rideshare “Stimulator”, developed by Saber Interactive and Unigine, has become the subject of controversy surrounding the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its development process.

Allegations and Denials Regarding AI’s Role

The dispute began when Stella Sacco, a former lead writer for the project, publicly claimed on Bluesky that “I was lead writer on this one! […] they replaced me with ChatGPT.” This statement quickly garnered significant attention within the gaming community.

In response to these allegations, Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive, issued an official denial. Karch explicitly stated, “Neither Saber nor Unigine have replaced any writers with AI” for the Rideshare “Stimulator” game, which was announced last month. While the direct replacement of writers with AI was refuted, the company did confirm the utilization of AI in other aspects of the game’s development.
