Netflix Pivots Towards Party Games and TV Streaming

Netflix is set to close two of its internal gaming studios, according to reports from Game File and Variety. This strategic move signals a significant shift in the company’s gaming division, with an increased focus on party games and titles designed for streaming directly to televisions.

Night School Studio Among Closures

Among the studios slated for closure is Night School Studio, widely recognized for creating the Oxenfree and Afterparty series. Netflix acquired Night School in 2021. Notably, the studio had just released the experimental horror title Unhinged a mere six weeks prior to the news of its impending shutdown, marking one of its final releases under Netflix’s ownership.

This decision underscores Netflix’s evolving priorities within its gaming ventures, moving away from traditional studio development in favor of formats that better align with its core streaming platform identity.
