YouTube Partner Program Updates

YouTube has announced substantial revisions to its Partner Program (YPP), set to take effect on February 1, 2027. These updates will make it more challenging for creators to monetize their channels.

Elevated Thresholds for YPP Eligibility

Under the revised policy, content creators aiming to join the YouTube Partner Program and earn revenue will need to meet significantly higher criteria:

  • A minimum of 1,000 subscribers on their channel.
  • Either 8,000 qualified watch hours accumulated over the past 12 months.
  • Or 20 million qualified Shorts views within the last 90 days.

These new thresholds represent a considerable increase from the current requirements. While the 1,000 subscriber count remains unchanged, the necessary watch hours and Shorts views have been substantially elevated. The adjustments effectively double the required watch hours for creators to begin earning on the platform.
