Amazon Alexa Tablets: A Fresh Approach to Mobile Devices
Amazon has launched an entirely new series of Alexa Tablets, marking a significant departure from its previous tablet offerings. These devices abandon the long-standing Fire branding, used for Amazon tablets for the past 15 years, to focus on two core objectives: integrating Alexa Plus and providing full access to the Google Play Store for the first time on an Amazon tablet.
Models and Key Features
The new lineup comprises three distinct models: the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, the Amazon Alexa Tablet 11, and the Amazon Alexa Tablet 8. All new Alexa Tablets operate on Android, granting users comprehensive access to the vast library of applications and content available through the Google Play Store.
Amazon Kids Tablets with Parental Controls
In addition to the primary Alexa Tablet series, Amazon is also introducing new Amazon Kids Tablets. These child-friendly versions offer similar core functionality but include enhanced parental controls, allowing guardians to manage and restrict access to software and content from the Google Play Store. The Amazon Kids Tablets will also feature two different styles of colorful, protective cases.
I’m really intrigued by these new Alexa Tablets, especially with full Google Play access. I’ve always found the Fire OS too restrictive for my daily apps, but the hardware was decent for the price. My main concern is still going to be bloatware and how well the Alexa integration plays with standard Android apps. With my current Fire HD, I often have to sideload apps, which is a pain. If they can get the performance right and keep it snappy without too much Amazon overlay, it could be a game-changer. My tip: always check for custom ROMs if the stock experience gets too sluggish after a few updates.
