Framework Investigates Critical BIOS Update Failure

Modular laptop manufacturer Framework has officially acknowledged reports of failed BIOS updates on its Framework Laptop 13 models featuring AMD Ryzen 7040 processors. The company confirmed that a small percentage of these updates have rendered the devices’ motherboards unable to boot.

Details of the Issue

The problem, which effectively ‘bricks’ the mainboards, affects owners of Framework Laptop 13 units equipped with last-generation AMD chips. Users have reported their laptops failing to boot on both Windows and Linux operating systems after applying BIOS update version 3.20. This specific BIOS update was initially released in July and remained available on Framework’s official website at the time of this report.

Framework states it is actively investigating the root cause of this critical issue. The company has not yet provided details on potential fixes or workarounds for affected users.
