Orion soft has announced the launch of its new remote access protocol, Pulsar, developed from the ground up to address the specific demands of the Russian enterprise sector. This initiative stems from a recognized need to move beyond the limitations of existing architectural solutions, particularly those offered by Open Source platforms, which the developers contend are often insufficient for real-world large-scale corporate scenarios.
The Challenges and Design Philosophy Behind Pulsar
Remote access systems typically comprise clients, brokers, and server agents, all working in concert to connect tens of thousands of users to specific applications and servers under defined policy controls. The underlying protocol is crucial, influencing factors such as visual stability over poor connections, seamless device passthrough, and robust encryption, including compliance with GOST standards without cumbersome workarounds.
Alexander Donin, Technical Manager for the Termit VDI and terminal access platform, explained that the decision to develop the Pulsar protocol from scratch was driven by the inability of third-party architectural solutions to meet the required levels of functionality and security. The Orion soft team embarked on this development a year ago, aiming to create a protocol specifically engineered for the practical use cases and unique requirements of Russian enterprises.
Why Custom Development Outperforms Open Source for Enterprise
A key differentiator for Pulsar is its purpose-built architecture, designed from inception to cater to specific operational scenarios, as opposed to merely adapting generic Open Source alternatives. This approach facilitates the direct integration of specialized features, such as GOST encryption, eliminating the need for makeshift solutions that can compromise performance and stability. The project highlights why simply customizing Open Source tools is often inadequate for ensuring comprehensive and secure remote access within large organizational structures.
