Microsoft Celebrates Halo’s 25th Anniversary with Exclusive Xbox Console and Accessory Lineup
In commemoration of the iconic Halo franchise’s 25th anniversary, Microsoft has officially announced a special Designed for Xbox 25th Anniversary collection. This exclusive series features a limited edition gaming console alongside a range of unique accessories, all available for pre-order.
Limited Edition Xbox Series X in “OG Green”
The centerpiece of the collection is the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console, initially teased at E3 in June. A distinctive feature of this console, and most accessories in the series, is its translucent “OG Green” colorway. This design pays homage to the original special edition Halo Xbox, which also sported a translucent casing.
The official price for this special edition Xbox console is set at $899. Pre-orders for the console are scheduled to commence on August 27th at 10 AM ET / 7 AM PT, with the official launch slated for November 13th.
Accessories and Bonus Content
Beyond the console, the collection extends to other limited edition gadgets, all featuring the same recognizable translucent green aesthetic. These include:
- Matching Controller: A controller in the “OG Green” colorway will be available concurrently with the console.
- Additional Accessories: Other items within the collection are also open for pre-order.
As an added bonus for fans, Microsoft will include a full-game digital download of Halo: Combat Evolved with the console package, offering a complete experience for franchise enthusiasts.
While the nostalgic ‘OG Green’ design is certainly appealing, I can’t help but wonder about the value proposition here. $899 seems quite steep for what is essentially a cosmetic upgrade and a digital download of an older game. Many fans might find it difficult to justify the significant premium, especially with ongoing economic pressures. It feels like a missed opportunity to offer more substantial exclusive content or performance enhancements for that price point.
