Chinese Memory Manufacturer CXMT Bolsters Position in Global DRAM Market

According to analytics firm Counterpoint Research, Chinese memory producer CXMT (Changxin Memory Technologies) has significantly expanded its footprint in the global DRAM market. In the second quarter of 2026, CXMT’s revenue share reached 10%, a notable increase from 8% in the first quarter of the same year. The company’s revenue demonstrated impressive growth, surging by 150% year-over-year and an additional 25% quarter-over-quarter.

“Hefei Project”: CXMT’s Strategic Path to Market Share

CXMT’s ascent was not coincidental. As reported by NoCut News, citing criminal case documents, the company implemented a large-scale initiative known as the “Hefei Project” since its founding in 2016. South Korean prosecutors allege that this plan involved acquiring key technologies from Samsung and actively recruiting its engineers. Over the past decade, these strategic maneuvers have enabled the Chinese manufacturer to become a major player in the DRAM industry.

South Korea Set to Widen Lead in Memory Production

Despite CXMT’s advancements, South Korean giants Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are poised to further extend their dominance. Bloomberg, referencing a Bank of Korea report, indicates that by 2028, expansions at these companies will substantially boost their output. Conversely, the actual production volume from Chinese manufacturers currently remains below their stated capacities, which may hinder their ability to close the gap with market leaders.
