BMW Unveils Key Details for Electric i3 Sedan

BMW is progressively revealing crucial information regarding its all-electric i3 sedan, built upon the innovative Neue Klasse platform. Set to launch in the U.S. market early next year, the vehicle is now receiving recommended pricing and more precise specifications as the fourth quarter approaches.

Range and Battery Technology

A standout feature of the new BMW i3 is its impressive driving range. Official figures indicate the electric vehicle can achieve up to 750 km (approximately 466 miles) on the U.S. EPA cycle and a remarkable 912 km (approximately 567 miles) on the WLTP cycle. This enhanced range is attributed to the integration of sixth-generation battery cells. These cylindrical cells, measuring 46 mm in diameter and 95 mm in height, offer a 20% higher energy storage density compared to the fifth-generation prismatic cells.

While many details have been disclosed, BMW has yet to specify the exact capacity of the traction battery that enables such an extensive range. However, charging capabilities are impressive: the i3 can replenish 423 km (approximately 263 miles) of range in just ten minutes using a 400 kW express charging station, underscoring its practicality and efficiency.

Pricing and Market Position

Regarding cost, the BMW i3 will be available starting from $61,500. This pricing information allows both potential consumers and competitors to assess the market positioning of BMW’s new electric sedan, which aims to strengthen the brand’s presence in the premium EV segment.
