AMD Introduces Zen 6 and Future EPYC Generations

AMD has officially announced the sixth generation of its server processors, codenamed Venice. These chips, part of the EPYC 9006 series, represent AMD’s first products to utilize the new Zen 6 and Zen 6c core architectures. Initial system shipments featuring EPYC 9006 processors for the SP7 platform are anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2026.

EPYC Development Roadmap Extended to 2030

Alongside the recent announcement, AMD also updated its roadmap for EPYC server processors, extending its outlook to 2030. According to the updated plan, processors based on the Zen 7 architecture, internally codenamed Florence, are slated for release in 2028. The subsequent generation, built upon the Zen 8 architecture and known as Ravenna, is projected to launch by 2030.

Zen 6 Performance Benchmarks Against Competitors

AMD additionally shared performance data for its new Zen 6-based EPYC Venice processors, comparing them against Nvidia’s Vera chips. An AMD executive expressed satisfaction with Nvidia’s published SPEC CPU 2026 integer performance results for Vera. In a comparable configuration, AMD claims that EPYC Venice delivers 2.2 times higher throughput and 1.2 times greater per-core performance than Nvidia Vera. However, industry observers suggest that such comparisons warrant a more detailed examination.
