Capcom Embraces AI for Future Game Creation

Capcom, the renowned developer behind iconic franchises such as Resident Evil and Street Fighter, has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly upgrade its proprietary RE Engine. Under an initiative dubbed the REX Project, the company intends to progressively enhance the engine’s tools to accelerate game development cycles and expand the application of artificial intelligence.

Advancing RE Engine Capabilities Through AI

A core objective of the REX Project is to foster deeper AI integration in game development. This includes leveraging advanced algorithms for automated testing of game content and efficient bug detection. Such advancements are designed to streamline production processes and elevate the overall quality of upcoming titles.

During the Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026, programmer Satoshi Ishida delivered a presentation titled “The Outlook and Future of the REX Project, Further Evolving the RE Engine,” detailing the company’s vision for creating games collaboratively with AI. Capcom’s adoption of AI in development is expected not only to expedite game creation but also to enable the studio to explore new creative frontiers, even as some of its titles, like Pragmata, delve into the horrors of artificial intelligence.
