Sony Integrates AI Graphics Enhancement for Regular PS5

Sony has officially launched a new artificial intelligence-driven upscaling technology specifically designed for the standard PlayStation 5 console. This innovative solution, named Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), marks a significant advancement in AI upscaling performance.

Understanding QSSR Technology

As detailed in a recent blog post by Sony, QSSR is the outcome of the company’s Project Amethyst, a collaborative effort with AMD. This project aims to substantially enhance the visual fidelity of games without imposing excessive demands on the console’s hardware. While PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) was previously introduced, QSSR is positioned as a more advanced iteration within this performance tier of AI upscaling.

Initial Game Support for QSSR

The first titles to receive support for the new QSSR technology include the highly anticipated games Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Corresponding updates for both games were released concurrently with the announcement, allowing players to experience the benefits of enhanced graphics immediately. The integration of QSSR promises to deliver more detailed and smoother gameplay, elevating the overall visual quality.
