Chinese private company LandSpace achieves a significant milestone in reusable rocket technology.

On August 19, private Chinese company LandSpace marked a notable achievement by successfully performing a controlled landing of the first stage of its orbital carrier rocket, the Zhuque-3. The launch occurred at 02:35 Moscow time from the Dongfeng commercial launch site, situated in the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center area in northwest China.

Zhuque-3 Mission Details

The Zhuque-3 rocket lifted off in the early morning, and just two minutes after launch, its first stage separated to begin its return journey. It executed a soft landing on a designated pad located 390 km from the launch site. The rocket’s second stage successfully completed its mission, deploying its payload into orbit.

Unexpected Turn of Events

Despite the successful landing, the triumph was short-lived. Within minutes of touching down, the landed first stage was engulfed in flames. This incident occurred on the landing pad, raising questions about the long-term reliability and safety protocols of LandSpace’s reusable systems. Image sources: CCTV, Social network X.
