Katalyst Space LINK Spacecraft Experiences Critical Failure in Orbit

A crucial mission to boost the orbit of NASA’s Swift observatory is facing significant challenges after the Katalyst Space LINK spacecraft, tasked with the orbital adjustment, began tumbling uncontrollably. The incident occurred shortly after the spacecraft reached orbit, complicating efforts to save the vital orbital telescope.

System Malfunctions and Operational Impact

The loss of control is attributed to key component failures within LINK’s attitude control system. These malfunctions have resulted in intermittent communication with ground control and triggered an onboard computer reboot. Currently, the LINK spacecraft is in an uncontrolled spin, severely hindering its ability to perform its intended mission. Despite the critical setback, teams are actively working to regain control and maintain hope for the successful completion of the Swift observatory rescue mission.
