AMD FSR 4 Expansion: Boosting Performance on Portable and Mobile Devices
AMD is set to integrate its AI-powered upscaling technology, FSR 4, into its processors featuring integrated graphics, as well as chips designed for gaming laptops and portable gaming consoles. This significant expansion is projected to occur by the end of 2026.
Executive Confirmation Signals Broader Support
The announcement was made by Jack Huynh, AMD’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Computing and Graphics business unit, during a press briefing with Korean media in Seoul. Previously, there were concerns that older handheld devices, such as the Steam Deck, might not receive official FSR 4 support, despite the technical feasibility of its implementation.
Huynh’s statement, however, underscores AMD’s commitment to broader adoption of FSR 4, a technology engineered to enhance framerates and improve gaming performance across a diverse range of platforms, including both mobile and handheld gaming systems.
This is great news! I’ve been using FSR 3 on my handheld for a while now, and while it definitely helps with framerates in demanding titles, the ghosting can be pretty noticeable in fast-paced games. I’m really hoping FSR 4 addresses those artifacts and brings a cleaner upscaling experience. My tip for current FSR users is to experiment with the quality presets; sometimes ‘balanced’ looks better than ‘performance’ if you’re not desperate for every single frame.
