OpenAI Introduces New Advertising Format to ChatGPT
OpenAI has announced an expansion of its advertising capabilities within the ChatGPT platform, introducing a novel format that incorporates visual advertisements. This move represents a significant shift from the previous advertising model, aiming for a deeper integration of sponsored content into the user experience.
Visual Ads to Appear with Image Generation
According to the company’s announcement on Monday, testing for this new ad format is scheduled to commence in the U.S. later this month. These visual ads will be displayed on users’ screens specifically when generating images using ChatGPT. Previously, advertising in the chatbot, first introduced in February, was confined to showing company names, logos, and product links within a dedicated ‘Sponsored Content’ section below the chat window.
OpenAI’s updated strategy involves showcasing images of sponsored products and services directly within the interface, making the advertisements more prominent and integrated. Initially, this new visual ad format will be available exclusively in the U.S.
I’ve been using ChatGPT for image generation pretty heavily lately, especially for quick concept art and mood boards. The current text-based ads are barely noticeable, but visual ads during generation? That’s a bit concerning. I often have specific prompts running, and a disruptive visual ad could really break my flow. Hopefully, they implement it in a way that doesn’t feel too intrusive. My main tip for others is to really refine your prompts beforehand to minimize regeneration, which might help avoid some of these new ads.
