Apple Officially Introduces iPhone Duo
Apple has officially unveiled its long-anticipated foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, at its “Surprise and Shine” event held in Cupertino. This announcement comes more than seven years after the market debut of the first Samsung Galaxy Fold, marking the launch of the first marquee device under the leadership of Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus.
Design and Form Factor
Breaking from early iterations of foldable devices that often resembled vertical slabs, Apple adopted a wider, “passport-sized” form factor for the iPhone Duo. The company states this design is more conducive to video viewing, scrolling feeds, and other daily tasks. When closed, the iPhone Duo is comparable in size to a passport, featuring a 5.4-inch external display that occupies 90% of the front panel, with a circular cutout for the front-facing camera in its upper right corner. When opened, it reveals a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR internal display.
Display Innovations and Camera Technology
A notable feature of the iPhone Duo is its front-facing camera, which is discreetly hidden beneath the internal display. Apple has specifically highlighted its success in eliminating the visible crease often found in the middle of foldable screens, a common challenge for such devices. This achievement, according to the company, significantly enhances the user experience.

Reports indicate that the iPhone Duo will have a starting price of $2,000, positioning it as a premium offering within the foldable smartphone market.
I’ve been using the iPhone Duo for a few weeks now, and while the crease-free display is genuinely impressive for media consumption, I’m finding the ‘passport-sized’ form factor a bit awkward in my pocket compared to my old Pro Max.
